Measurement

This week we have been exploring activities which develop an awareness of length and area. We have been using words like; long, short, tall, big and small to describe objects.

 Be as tall as you can

 Be as short as you can

 Be as wide as you can

 Try to cover the mat

Then the children were given a piece of paper with different sized hearts on it. They had to colour in the largest hearts and then the smallest hearts. We discussed which sized hearts were the fastest to colour in and why.

Then the children had to use that piece of paper and find something in the room that they could wrap up completely. It was interesting to see what could and couldn't be covered.

Another activity we did was that the children had to draw around their foot, cut it out and then guess how many cubes long it would be. This was very interesting.
