Celebrating Cook Island Language Week

 Tivaevae

We made a class tivaevae today using paper squares.  First we folded the paper, next we cut the corners off and cut some shapes into the paper.  Finally we unfolded our squares to see our designs and glued them on to our class tivaevae.  We learned that in the Cook Islands tivaevae are a very special form of artistic quilting.  Sometimes the tivaevae are made by one person or can be created by groups of people.

Some children were busy making their very own tivaevae during Play Based Learning.

Come and see our tivaevae hanging on the wall in Room 4!

Cutting the folded paper.

It was really enjoyable to see our class tivaevae coming together.

Arsh made his very own tivaevae at the making table.  Great work Arsh!
